An old friend of my father's and more recent friend of mine, Larry Walske, posted this on Instagram, and it really resonated with me. It encapsulates very well the energy I feel when I'm doing the creative thing, and it also gives a friendly wave to the principles and traditions of A.A.. A little light Googling reveals that this is the work of Eckhart Tolle, who I am delighted to see lives sometimes here in Vancouver, BC. I don't know if this is a direct quite or a paraphrasing; I suspect I will be looking into this more deeply. At any rate, here it is:
"Modalities of Awakened Doing
Acceptance - Enjoyment - Enthusiasm
Be vigilant to make sure that one of them operates whenever you are engaged in doing anything at all.
If you are not in one of these states, look closely and you will find that you are creating suffering for yourself and others.
ACCEPTANCE: For now, this is what this situation, this moment, requires me to do, and so I do it willingly.
ENJOYMENT: The peace that comes with surrendered action turns into a sense of aliveness when you actually enjoy what you are doing. Through enjoyment, you link into the universal creative power itself.
ENTHUSIASM - Means there is a deep enjoyment in what you do, plus the added element of a goal or a vision that you work towards. At the height of creative activity fueled by enthusiasm, there will be enormous intensity and energy behind what you do.You will feel like an arrow that is moving toward the target - and enjoying the journey. Enthusiasm never opposes. It is non-confrontational. It gives out of its own abundance."
Now I have some mulling to do. More to say later.
